On Feb. 28, 2026, you are invited to gear up for a day engineered for imagination as National Engineers’ Day takes over Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center and our sister location, Children’s Museum Houston . National Engineers’ Day shines a spotlight on the brilliant minds who design, test, and build the world around us.  Construct curiosity, assemble ideas, and blueprint your way to discovery through hands-on activities which make learning click!  National Engineers Week falls on Feb. 22 to 28.

Calling all creative thinkers, problem solvers, and team players!  Engineering might just be your jam! Whether you’re into speed, structure, light, or flight, this is one day that’s perfectly measured for fun.
 
Maker Lab – Scribble Bots:  Explore physics, engineering, and creativity with chaotic art machines that make wildly unpredictable masterpieces.   
When: From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at OcuSOFT Art Academy.
 
ALL-DAY ACTIVITIES:
 

• Roller Coaster Art: Engineer a coaster equal parts thrill and art in Kids’ Hall Activity Table.
• Super-Powered Spin Art: Charge up creativity with spinning, swirling works of art in OcuSOFT Art Academy.
• Construction Engineering Challenges: (In Kids’ Hall Activity Tables)
  • Sail Cars:  Design wind-powered racers and let physics do the driving.
  • Straw Rockets:  Blast off while learning how engineers make things fly.

From racing wind-powered cars to launching straw rockets and designing art bikes, this celebration proves that engineering is structurally awesome.
 
Ameritex Race Car Build: Start your engines! Join Ameritex to design and construct cardboard race cars.  No pit crew required! 
When: At the top of every hour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.
 
Construction Engineering Challenges: (When: From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Kids’ Hall).

• Sail Cars: Catch the wind and race to the finish line.
• Straw Rockets: Launch sky-high as you explore the principles of flight.

 
Design Your Own Art Bike: Pedal-powered creativity rolls in with the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. Create art to transform your bike and your style!
When: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Alexander Design Studio.
 
ALL-DAY ACTIVITIES:
 

• Light Doodles: Illuminate your imagination with glowing art using flashlights and LED pens inside Chevron Maker Lab.
• Motor Cars: Build a battery-powered car and race fellow makers for bragging rights in Chevron Maker Annex.
• Roller Coaster Art: Twist, turn, and test your own coaster designs where art meets engineering in Kids’ Hall Activity Table.
