Museums from around the world, of all disciplines, view the Children’s Museum of Houston (CMH) as a model for exhibit development, impactful program deployment, and effective, efficient management. National experts have recently offered the following accolades: In 2012, Forbes magazine recognized CMH as one of the top 12 children’s museums in the country; we are currently the Parents magazine’s #1-ranked children’s museum in the nation; contributors to Citysearch.com honored us with a rating of 5 stars, the highest possible; and our high star rating on TripAdvisor earned us that website’s Certificate of Excellence. In their most recent polls, Nickelodeon’s Parents’ Picks and Click2Houston.com both named us the “Best Museum in Houston”. The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center benefits from CMH’s 30 years of experience and its record of success.
CMH has delivered outreach programming to low-income families living in Fort Bend County since the mid-1990s. In 2006, a group of Fort Bend County citizens asked CMH to consider opening a satellite location in the area. The Museum conducted summer venues at vacant retail spaces within Town Square in Sugar Land, each for 6 weeks, during the summers of 2007 and 2008. The test results of CMH’s Discovery Center at Sugar Land Town Square speak to the success of CMH as a partner in providing this experience to Sugar Land. Attendance, if aggregated to an annual figure, would place the Discovery enter among the top half of best attended children’s museums in the country.
