FBCDC Kids’ Committee

Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center Kids’ Committee

Our Application Process is NOW CLOSED. Please visit us next year for your opportunity to be on the committee.

What is the Kids’ Committee?

The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center (FBCDC) will have a volunteer board of 10-12 children called the Kids’ Committee. As expert advisors on kid-related topics, the Kids’ Committee will be indispensable in helping the Center remain child-centered through its exhibits and related programming. The Kids’ Committee members will also serve as ambassadors of the Center within the Fort Bend County community, representing it through their volunteer leadership.

What does the Kids’ Committee do?

• Give their opinions on existing exhibits and related programs.
• Help generate and test new exhibit components.
• Serve as ambassadors by representing FBCDC (such as photo shoots, special celebrations, outreach events and exhibit openings).

What is the time commitment?

The FBCDC Kids’ Committee will meet three times each year, on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Only one absence is allowed per school year. Members commit to serving on the committee for two years, rolling off to make way for new Members after the two years. Kids’ Committee members will often be asked, but not required, to represent the Center at other special events, outside these regular commitments.

What are the qualifications to join?

Children applying must be between 8-12 years old AND in 3rd – 7th grade during the 2016-17 school year. We need children who want to volunteer and be part of the Committee; who are willing and able to communicate their ideas; and who are able to work well on a team with other children. Applicant families MUST live within Fort Bend County and it is preferred that Members attend schools located within Fort Bend County.

What is the application process?

Applications, related instructions and further details will be available February 16. Selected through application review, candidates will interview in April. Those invited to become Members will represent FBCDC at its public opening on May 28th, 2016.
